Fintiri Imposes Curfew In Adamawa
The governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has imposed a 24-hour curfew on Lamurde Local Government Area following renewed violence between the Chobo and Bachaman communities.
According to a statement issued by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Humeashi Wonosikou, the curfew takes immediate effect and will remain in place until further notice.
The government said the decision was taken after fresh attacks and a breakdown of peace in parts of the area.
The governor described the disturbances as unacceptable and directed security agencies to strictly enforce the restriction. He warned that anyone found violating the curfew would be arrested and prosecuted according to the law.
The crisis between the two communities has persisted for months and has forced the state government to impose similar curfews several times in recent months.
Authorities say the measure is aimed at stopping further killings and restoring order.
Reports indicate that at least two people were initially killed before the curfew announcement, while additional deaths were later recorded after retaliatory attacks by youths from the Bachaman community on villages in Chobo areas.
The spokesperson for the Adamawa State Police Command, SP Suleiman Nguroje, confirmed the incident and said authorities were monitoring the situation, with more updates expected as investigations continue.
The long-running communal conflict between the Chobo and Bachaman communities has reportedly claimed more than 30 lives, many of them women.
The state government has appealed to residents to cooperate with security agencies to help restore peace and prevent further violence.
