A large fire broke out today at the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) headquarters in Abuja, sending thick black smoke into the sky and causing alarm among staff and nearby residents.
Flames were reported in a section of the multi-storey building in Wuse Zone, with videos and photos of the fire quickly spreading on social media as emergency responders rushed to the scene.
Firefighters from the Federal Capital Territory Fire Service arrived promptly, working to bring the blaze under control while ensuring the safe evacuation of employees. No casualties have been confirmed, and early reports indicate that all staff were safely escorted out.
The cause of the fire is still unknown. Sources close to the building speculated that an electrical fault could have triggered the blaze, a recurring issue in many public offices across Nigeria.
