Fresh Defections Shake PDP Ground In Senate
Four senators from Adamawa and Zamfara states have left the Peoples Democratic Party and joined the ruling All Progressives Congress, dealing another setback to the opposition in the National Assembly.
The lawmakers formally announced their move during a Senate plenary where Senate President Godswill Akpabio read letters informing the chamber of their decision to leave the PDP.
Those who switched parties include Aminu Iya Abbas of Adamawa Central, Amos Yohanna representing Adamawa North, and Ikra Aliyu Bilbis from Zamfara North.
Their defection adds to the growing list of lawmakers leaving the opposition party.
The move came shortly after Rivers West senator Ipalibo Harry Banigo also announced her departure from the PDP to the APC earlier in the week.
The latest changes further reduce the opposition’s numbers in the Senate while boosting the strength of the ruling party.
