Igbo Elders Push State Creation
In Nigeria, the United Igbo Elders Council said the proposed creation of Anioma State is a long-standing demand rooted in history, not politics.
The group described it as a key moment that will test fairness and balance in the country’s structure.
The elders said the push has gained fresh attention under the leadership of Godswill Akpabio and the efforts of Ned Nwoko.
They argued that the move reflects a broader call to address structural concerns affecting the Anioma people.
According to the group, the demand is about identity, inclusion, and development.
They said creating the state would correct long-standing gaps and strengthen unity, rather than divide the country.
They also urged the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu to act without delay.
The elders warned that continued hesitation could deepen distrust, while timely action would show commitment to fairness and national growth.
