INEC Breaks Down It’s 2027 Budget Plan
The Independent National Electoral Commission has proposed ₦873.78 billion to conduct the 2027 general elections, with more than ₦200 billion set aside for technology alone.
The budget was presented to the joint committee on Electoral Matters of the Senate and House of Representatives by INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan.
A breakdown of the proposal shows that ₦375.75 billion is earmarked for election operations, while ₦92.31 billion will cover administrative costs.
The commission also plans to spend ₦209.21 billion on election technology.
Further allocations include ₦154.90 billion for capital expenses and ₦41.61 billion for miscellaneous items.
The technology vote is expected to fund digital infrastructure, electronic processes and other systems needed for the polls.
The proposal has drawn attention due to its size, as lawmakers are expected to scrutinise the details before approval.
The 2027 elections are still over a year away, but preparations appear to be gathering pace.
