INEC Officially Announces 2027 Election Date
The Independent National Electoral Commission has fixed 20 February 2027 for the Presidential and National Assembly elections, while Governorship and State Assembly polls will follow on 6 March 2027.
The announcement sets the timetable for Nigeria’s next general elections, giving political parties, candidates and voters a clear schedule ahead of the nationwide exercise.
The presidential race and contests for seats in the Senate and House of Representatives will come first.
Two weeks later, voters will return to the polls to choose governors and members of state houses of assembly across the country. The staggered arrangement mirrors the pattern used in previous general elections.
With the dates now public, attention is expected to shift to party primaries, campaign strategies and preparations by electoral officials as the road to 2027 begins in earnest.
