INEC Warns On Election Misinformation In 2027
Prof Amupitan has cautioned that the biggest risk to Nigeria’s 2027 elections will be false information spread widely through the media.
He said misinformation could shape public opinion and distort the electoral process.
The electoral chief noted that the rapid spread of unverified claims, especially online, poses a serious challenge to credible elections.
He warned that such narratives can weaken trust in democratic institutions.
He urged stakeholders, including the media and political actors, to act responsibly by verifying information before sharing.
According to him, accurate reporting is key to protecting the integrity of the polls.
The warning comes as preparations slowly begin for the 2027 elections, with concerns growing over the role of information control and public perception in shaping outcomes.
