Iyabo Obasanjo Joins New Political Party
Prof Iyabo Obasanjo, daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, has reportedly joined the All Progressives Congress in Ogun State, marking a fresh political development ahead of growing conversations about 2027.
The registration was said to have taken place on Tuesday at Ibogun Ward 11 in Ifo Local Government Area.
The claim was disclosed by Biodun Ajayi, a former chairman of Abeokuta South Local Government and a known associate of the Obasanjo family. He said the former senator completed her online registration into the ruling party at the ward level.
In recent months, campaign-style billboards bearing her name appeared across parts of Abeokuta, stirring debate about a possible political comeback.
Political watchers say her reported decision to align with the APC has surprised many, given her father’s past opposition to the party and his support for Peter Obi in the 2023 presidential election.
Sources close to her insist the move reflects her independent judgement, noting that she had earlier said the billboards were put up by supporters acting on goodwill rather than a declared ambition
