Kano By-election Sees Empty Polling Units
Voters in Kano Municipal turned out in small numbers on Saturday as by-elections into the Kano State House of Assembly got underway, despite electoral officials arriving early at many polling centres.
Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission were seen setting up on time, with materials and accreditation devices ready before voting began.
However, several polling units recorded thin queues as the morning progressed.
Observers noted that some centres had only a handful of voters hours after accreditation started. The calm atmosphere contrasted with the usual buzz that follows elections in the area.
Security personnel were stationed at strategic points to maintain order, while electoral officers continued the process in anticipation of a possible late surge in turnout.
