Kano Deputy Gov Faces Impeachment Pressure
The Deputy Governor of Kano State, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, is reportedly waiting for the return of Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso before responding to an impeachment notice issued against him.
Sources say Gwarzo is consulting with political allies and members of the Kwankwasiyya movement as he prepares his response to allegations of gross misconduct.
The two-week window given by the State House of Assembly is expected to expire soon, but no formal reply has been submitted as of March 17.
Insiders within his camp claim some of the allegations are politically motivated and aimed at damaging his reputation.
They added that documents exist to counter the claims, which will be made public after consultations with Kwankwaso.
The allegations stem from Gwarzo’s time as Commissioner for Local Government Affairs between 2023 and 2024, including claims of breach of public trust and diversion of funds meant for local government administration.
The impeachment process was initiated following a petition presented by the Majority Leader, Hon. Lawan Hussaini Dala, who said the procedure complies with constitutional provisions for removing a deputy governor from office.
There are also indications that Gwarzo may challenge the process in court, depending on the outcome of ongoing consultations.
Kwankwaso is expected back in Kano this week for activities marking the end of Ramadan, where further political discussions on the matter are likely to take place.
