Kano Government Rejects Harassment Claims
The Kano State Government has denied claims that it is targeting citizens who hold opposing views, accusing New Nigeria People Party chieftain Buba Galadima of spreading false allegations against Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and the state’s DSS director.
Officials say the accusations are baseless and politically driven.
At a late Thursday briefing, Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs Abdullahi Waya described Galadima’s comments as an attempt to damage the governor’s image.
He said the government has never ordered security agencies to harass critics or silence dissenting voices.
The commissioner linked Galadima’s recent remarks to his removal as chairman of the Kano State Polytechnic board, saying the decision was based strictly on performance and competence.
He added that the criticism appears rooted in personal grievance rather than public interest.
Wayas maintained that the Yusuf administration respects constitutional rights, including freedom of expression, but warned that the law does not shield defamation or actions capable of disturbing public peace.
He added that security agencies act within legal limits and respond only to credible complaints, not political instructions.
