Ahmed Musa, General Manager of Kano Pillars Football Club, has apologised following violent scenes that overshadowed the team’s Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) clash against Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) on Sunday.
The match at Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano descended into chaos after Shooting Stars scored a dramatic late equaliser, prompting some home fans to storm the pitch and attack players, referees, and match officials. Videos of the incident circulating online showed alarming scenes of panic and disorder.
In a statement released on the club’s social media accounts, Musa condemned the actions and took full responsibility on behalf of Kano Pillars.
“I extend my deepest and most sincere apologies for the unfortunate and disgraceful incident that occurred during our game against Shooting Stars Sports Club on Sunday evening,” Musa wrote.
He described the events as “heartbreaking, shameful, and completely unacceptable,” stressing that such behaviour does not reflect the club’s values or proud history.
Musa apologised to Shooting Stars’ players, coaches, officials, and supporters, as well as referees, NPFL officials, the league board, and football fans across Nigeria.
“I know how painful it must have been to witness something so damaging to our game, and I am deeply sorry,” he said.
The club boss pledged to cooperate fully with authorities to identify those responsible and ensure they face appropriate consequences. “Violence has no place in football. It is unacceptable and goes against everything this sport stands for. Kano Pillars FC will work with relevant authorities to hold the perpetrators accountable,” he said.
He also addressed the club’s fans, urging them to show support through discipline and respect. “True support is shown not through violence, but through passion, respect, and discipline. This must be a turning point for us,” Musa added.
Musa concluded by promising meaningful action to prevent future incidents. “On behalf of Kano Pillars Football Club, I offer my unreserved apology to everyone affected. We take full responsibility and will do everything necessary to restore trust and respect for football in Kano and across Nigeria,” he said.
The NPFL board has not yet announced any disciplinary decisions regarding the incident, PUNCH Online reports.
