Anxiety has deepened across social media after kidnappers hijacked the Facebook account of the late Venerable Edwin Achi and posted photos of his wife and daughter, who are still being held.
The Anglican cleric was kidnapped along with his family on October 28 in Kaduna State. Although relatives later raised the ransom requested, the abductors ultimately directed them to a bush location, where they recovered the priest’s decomposing body after almost a month in captivity.
In a disturbing twist, fresh photos of his wife and daughter suddenly appeared on his Facebook timeline, a move believed to have been carried out by the kidnappers. The posts have alarmed Nigerians, who fear the images may be a threat or an attempt to exert further pressure on the family.
Public outcry has intensified, with many urging security agencies to act swiftly to rescue the surviving hostages.
At the moment, authorities have not released any update on the rescue effort.
Reactions online have been filled with shock and sadness. One commenter wrote, “This is heartbreaking. God, please protect them.” Another lamented, “These kidnappers have no conscience. Using his account to torment the family? Wickedness.”
The unsettling development has heightened calls for immediate intervention as the wait for concrete updates continues.
