Lagos Police To Review Simi Old Messages On ‘Sexualisation’
On Thursday in Lagos, the state’s Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency moved against singer Simisola Kosoko, known as Simi, after old social media posts linked to her resurfaced online.
The agency asked the Lagos Police Command to begin preliminary checks following public anger over messages she shared years ago about children at her mother’s daycare.
The call for a probe came after screenshots from 2012 and 2013 spread widely on social media.
The posts, which many users described as inappropriate, referred to children at the crèche run by her mother.
The backlash grew quickly, with child protection concerns raised across different platforms.
The agency’s Executive Secretary, Lola Vivor-Adeniyi, said the matter had been referred to the Commissioner of Police for initial investigation.
She explained that reports suggested the events mentioned may have occurred at the daycare, prompting safeguarding concerns.
A state task force responsible for child protection has also been briefed and is carrying out preliminary work.
In response, Simi said the tweets reflected moments from 2012 when she was 23 and assisting at her mother’s daycare while building her music career.
She maintained that the posts were innocent observations and denied any wrongdoing.
She accused critics of twisting her words to fit false narratives and said although her team deleted some posts due to family sensitivity, she had nothing to hide and stood by her long record of speaking against sexual violence.
