LAUTECH Students Block Gate Over Department Transfer
Students of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology in Ogbomoso blocked the main gate on Tuesday to resist the transfer of the Department of Anatomy and Physiology to the Faculty of Pure and Applied Sciences.
The protest disrupted movement as undergraduates gathered in large numbers to make their stance clear.
They sang and raised placards bearing messages such as “LAUTECH!!! Don’t Separate Physiology from Medicine. Protect the Integrity of Medical Sciences.
Physiology belongs to Basic Medical Sciences. Our Discipline Is Not Experimental. LAUTECH!! We Won’t Be Silenced.” The action followed a Senate decision taken at its January 21, 2026 meeting approving the relocation from the College of Health Sciences.
An internal memo signed by Olayinka O. Balogun informed staff that non-medical personnel would also move to the new faculty for career progression.
The notice said the shift had been approved and sought cooperation to ensure a smooth transition.
Many students rejected the decision and insisted the department should remain under Medical Sciences.
They vowed to sustain their protest until management reverses the move. The university’s Public Relations Officer, Lekan Fadeyi, was unavailable for comment as of the time of filing this report.
