Makinde May Join 2027 Presidential Race
Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde is expected to formally enter the 2027 presidential race on Thursday during a major political rally at Mapo Hall in Ibadan.
The gathering, tagged “Unity Mega Rally Ibadan 2026,” is also expected to unveil a fresh alliance between the Peoples Democratic Party and the Allied Peoples Movement in Oyo State.
Political leaders, supporters and party stakeholders are already mobilising ahead of the event.
The planned declaration comes amid growing political movement around Makinde’s future ambitions.
Several politicians seeking elective offices in 2027 recently dumped the PDP for the APM, adding fuel to talks about a new political structure in the state.
Sources within the coalition said the governor may use the rally to officially launch his presidential project on the APM platform.
The event is also expected to feature the unveiling of candidates for governorship, Senate, House of Representatives and State Assembly positions under the APM.
Former Commissioner for Finance, Bimbo Adekanmbi, alongside politicians such as Stanley Olajide, Olufemi Ajadi and Shina Peller, are among those tipped for announcement.
Party leaders are also expected to sign a political alliance agreement before the rally begins.
Preparations have intensified across Ibadan ahead of the gathering as supporters and political allies arrive from different parts of the country.
Although Makinde has yet to publicly confirm his ambition, consultations and grassroots mobilisation around his possible presidential bid have continued to gain momentum in recent months.
His loyalists believe the rally could mark the start of a wider national campaign ahead of the 2027 elections.
