Makinde Vows Crackdown On Bandits After Teacher Killing
Seyi Makinde has vowed to intensify efforts to rescue the remaining victims abducted during the attack on schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The governor confirmed that seven teachers and an unknown number of pupils were taken by armed bandits.
The governor also revealed that one of the kidnapped teachers was killed by the attackers.
He said security teams made up of soldiers, Amotekun operatives and local vigilantes had already launched rescue operations across the affected communities.
Makinde disclosed that some security personnel were injured after stepping on improvised explosive devices planted by the bandits during the operation.
He added that the wounded officers were responding to treatment while the state government continued to support them.
He further stated that both military operations and softer community-based approaches would be used to tackle insecurity in the area.
The governor also confirmed the arrest of several suspects believed to be helping the abductors with information and logistics.
