A man has been rescued alive from the debris of the Great Nigeria Insurance building on Lagos Island, Lagos State, eleven days after the building collapsed following a fire incident.
The man was discovered alive on Tuesday afternoon during ongoing rescue operations at the site.
The multi-storey structure was engulfed by fire on Christmas Eve before eventually collapsing, leading Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to order its demolition on safety grounds.
Despite fears that there were no remaining survivors, emergency responders continued sustained search and rescue efforts at the scene.
Their persistence paid off when the survivor was located beneath the rubble more than a week after the collapse.
Authorities have not yet released information regarding the rescued individual’s identity or medical condition, while recovery and rescue operations are still ongoing at the site.
