Nigeria Raises Ebola Alert Over Border Risks
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention has warned that the country faces a high risk of an Ebola outbreak due to the continued spread of the virus in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda.
The agency linked the threat to rising cross-border movement and international travel across the region.
The NCDC said no Ebola case has been confirmed in Nigeria, but health authorities are closely monitoring the situation.
The agency noted that growing movement between African countries has increased concerns about possible transmission into Nigeria.
In response to the threat, the health agency said it has stepped up preparedness measures across the country.
Surveillance, border monitoring and emergency response systems are also being strengthened to prevent any outbreak.
Health officials urged Nigerians to remain calm while observing safety guidelines and reporting suspected symptoms quickly.
The agency said early detection and rapid response remain critical in stopping the spread of the deadly disease.
