Bashir Ahmad, a former presidential media aide, has stated that there is no justification for the call to relocate Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, from the Sokoto prison.

The recent United States military airstrikes in Sokoto created concerns among some Nigerians regarding the safety of the convicted separatist leader.

Following the incident, several individuals demanded that Kanu be urgently moved from the Sokoto correctional facility to ensure his protection.

However, in a post shared on his official X handle on Friday, Bashir maintained that Kanu falls within the same category as those being targeted by the US military.

He wrote, “Kanu is a convicted terrorist and the U.S. strikes were aimed at terrorist targets, so under those circumstances, there is no reasonable basis for calling for his relocation”.

Former US President Donald Trump had earlier announced that major airstrikes were carried out against insurgents in Sokoto on Christmas night.
