NRS Responds to Tax Law Claims
The Nigeria Revenue Service says it is enforcing only the tax law approved and transmitted by the National Assembly, dismissing claims that multiple versions of the law exist.
The clarification comes amid public debate over the authenticity of the recently gazetted tax legislation.
Zacch Adedeji, chairman of the Nigeria Revenue Service, explained that the law being implemented by the agency is the officially certified copy passed by lawmakers.
He said the National Assembly remains the only body legally empowered to produce and forward such documents to government agencies.
Addressing concerns over alleged conflicting texts, Adedeji insisted that the process leaves no room for alternatives. “There can never be any other one (tax law).
If you follow national assembly in December, they said this is the certified copy of the law we passed, they printed it, they gave it to me,” he said.
The NRS maintains that its actions are fully backed by due process and legislative authority, stressing that any version of the tax law outside the one transmitted by the National Assembly holds no legal standing.
