Obi Changes Political Direction
Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, has officially registered as a member of the African Democratic Congress.
The registration took place on Saturday in Agulu Ward 2 of Anaocha Local Government Area in Anambra State during the launch of the party’s membership and mobilisation drive.
His decision comes months after he revealed plans in December 2025 to align with the coalition-backed ADC. The move marks a new stage in his political journey as he prepares for activities leading to the 2027 general elections.
During the event, Obi also disclosed plans to challenge the Electoral Act 2026 in court. He argued that the law was pushed through quickly and claimed it could be used to influence the outcome of the next presidential election.
He also criticised the role of the Independent National Electoral Commission, saying the electoral body should concentrate on organising elections rather than interfering in how political parties choose their candidates.
Obi further said the south-east region is working together politically and that several notable figures from the zone are already involved in the ADC.
