Obi Criticises Leaders Over Election Focus
Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has accused Nigeria’s political leaders of concentrating on upcoming elections while insecurity continues to spread across the country.
In a statement shared on social media, Obi said the level of violence in several regions shows that the country is facing serious security challenges.
He expressed concern over recent attacks that have affected civilians and security personnel in different states.
The former governor pointed to a deadly assault on Ngoshe community in Borno State where terrorists reportedly overwhelmed soldiers, killing both troops and residents while abducting many women and children.
He said such incidents reflect the growing danger faced by communities and security forces.
Obi also mentioned reports of violence and displacement in states including Nasarawa, Kogi and Benue, where residents say armed groups have taken over farms and forest areas.
According to him, thousands of people in Nasarawa’s Kadarko area have already been registered as internally displaced persons.
He further referred to cases of kidnappings and attacks in Oyo, Ondo and Kebbi states, as well as a recent abduction incident in Kubwa within the Federal Capital Territory.
Obi warned that insecurity is now affecting areas once considered relatively safe.
The politician said Nigeria needs leadership that focuses on protecting lives and restoring stability, rather than prioritising political contests ahead of the next elections.
