Ogoni Activist Challenges Wike In Rivers Race
In Bori, Rivers State, Ogoni activist Fabeke Douglas has declared his intention to run for governor in the 2027 election.
The leader of the Ogoni Liberation Initiative made the announcement during the launch of Operation Nehemiah, a programme he says will drive economic and social change across the state.
Douglas said the initiative would serve as the foundation of his political campaign and help unlock the economic potential of Rivers State. He explained that his goal is to promote development that benefits communities across the state.
His entry into the race is seen by observers as a challenge to the influence of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, who has said he intends to play a role in shaping the state’s next political leadership after the current administration.
Douglas also revealed that he has chosen a political platform that aligns with his ideas and will soon hold a public meeting to share his plans with supporters.
He added that the bid also aims to break the long standing absence of an Ogoni indigene in the Rivers State governorship since the state was created in 1967.
