The Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, has assured that he will step in to address the lingering challenges facing Yoruba nation agitator, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, in his long-standing dispute with the Federal Government.

The monarch gave this assurance during a private meeting with Igboho at his Bodija residence in Ibadan, where they discussed his ordeals and possible solutions.

A statement from Igboho’s media office confirmed the meeting, which lasted about 40 minutes on Monday, also touched on insecurity in the South West and the rising threats of banditry in parts of Kwara State.

According to a source familiar with the discussions, Oba Ladoja, who warmly received Igboho and his supporters, pledged to intervene in his face-off with the Federal Government, including his status as a wanted person and the freeze placed on his bank accounts.

It will be recalled that during the administration of the late President Muhammadu Buhari, Igboho was declared wanted and had his accounts frozen over allegations of stockpiling arms. On July 1, 2021, operatives of the DSS, alongside the Nigerian Army, raided his Soka residence, where two of his aides were killed and 13 others arrested.

During the visit, Igboho congratulated Oba Ladoja on his ascension to the throne, hailing him as a leader deeply respected across Ibadan and Yorubaland. He also expressed his willingness to work with the Federal Government to strengthen security in the South West, emphasizing that peace and safety are vital for development.

“Olubadan has been a father figure to me since his days as the former governor of Oyo State. I commend Kabiyesi’s leadership qualities, humility, and enduring influence. His reign as Olubadan will no doubt further promote peace, unity, and development in Ibadanland and the entire Yorubaland,” Igboho said.
