Riley Moore, the head of the US delegation investigating Christian persecution in Nigeria, has disclosed that over 600,000 Christian internally displaced persons (IDPs) are currently in camps across Benue State.
Posting on his verified X account on Wednesday, the US Congressman, who personally visited the IDP camps, expressed deep concern about their dire circumstances.
During their visit, the US delegation also met with the Bishops and the Tiv traditional ruler.
“While in Benue, I encountered many Christians who had been forced from their homes and endured brutal violence, now living in IDP camps.
“They shared heart-wrenching accounts that will stay with me forever. One woman witnessed the murder of her husband and five children, barely escaping with her unborn baby.
“Another woman’s family was slaughtered before her eyes, and her baby was torn from her womb. One man saw his family hacked to death while his arm was severely injured.
“There are more than 600,000 Christians displaced in camps in Benue State alone. These people deserve to live safely in their ancestral lands without fear of genocidal attacks from Fulani herdsmen,” Rep Moore stated.
