PDP Begins Nationwide Registration
The Tanimu Turaki-led Peoples Democratic Party has announced it will begin a nationwide membership drive on Monday as part of its build-up to the 2027 general elections.
The plan was disclosed on Saturday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, who said the move is aimed at widening its support base and strengthening structures across the country.
The exercise comes after the Independent National Electoral Commission revised the 2027 election timetable.
The presidential and National Assembly polls are now fixed for January 16, 2027, while governorship and state assembly elections will hold on February 6, 2027, following changes to the Electoral Act that reduced the notice period.
Under the new schedule, political parties must submit a digital register of members by April 2, 2026.
The Turaki-led National Working Committee said it has approved digital registration in all wards across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory to meet this requirement.
The party said the registration will run for three weeks starting March 2, 2026, at ward, chapter and state offices, except on Sundays.
A committee headed by National Organising Secretary Theophilus Daka Shan will supervise the process and address complaints as the party seeks to prepare early for the next elections.
