The Anglican Bishop of Amichi Diocese, Rt Revd Ephraim Ikeakor, has praised former Governor Peter Obi for what he called an exceptional dedication to public service and human development.
The Bishop spoke when Obi visited the College of Nursing Sciences at the Diocesan Hospital, Amichi, where he donated ₦5 million to aid ongoing infrastructural projects.
He stated that he had never encountered a politician whose compassion for the people was as sincere and consistent as Obi’s.
He emphasised that Obi’s philanthropic activities are never connected to political ambitions.
“Whether he is contesting election or not, he continues to support institutions that serve society. I have not seen a politician like him,” he said.
The cleric recalled that Obi’s visits to the hospital had become a yearly tradition, adding that the former governor personally contacts them to confirm his visit.
According to him, this consistency demonstrates Obi’s genuine passion for uplifting communities.
Speaking on behalf of the students, the Students’ Union Leader, Mr Onyedika Otubaluonye, described Obi as a blessing to both the institution and the community at large.
He recalled the ambulance donated by Obi, noting that the school had continued to benefit from his generosity.
Obi also visited Immaculata Girls’ Secondary School, Nnewi, where students warmly received him.
Representing the students, Miss Ilikandu Mmasichukwu said the school still enjoys the benefits of buses, computers, and generators donated during Obi’s tenure as governor.
Expressing gratitude for these past contributions, Mmasichukwu appealed for additional support such as a Coaster bus, a Hilux vehicle, laptops for WAEC CBT examinations, and solar energy.
At St Felix Hospital, Nnewi, Obi once again applauded the dedication of the medical personnel and donated an additional ₦15 million to strengthen healthcare delivery.
The hospital’s manager, Rev Fr Peter Ugochukwu, who recalled Obi’s 2023 visit, said they were delighted to welcome him again and to be associated with him.
He revealed that plans were underway to secure a permanent site, construct a multi-specialty hospital, and establish a School of Nursing and Midwifery.
Responding at the various events, Obi reiterated his call for purposeful leadership, saying that society should honour leaders who serve humanity with sincerity.
He commended Bishop Ikeakor for his devotion to both the Church and the community, describing him as “a cleric whose integrity and service I deeply admire.”
Addressing students of Immaculata Girls’ Secondary School, Obi urged them to take their education seriously, reaffirming that education remains the most powerful tool for global significance.
“With education, you can become another Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Prof Chinyere Okunna, or Chimamanda Adichie.” He assured them that he would support the school’s requests.
At St Felix Hospital, Obi explained that his visit was to contribute to ongoing efforts aimed at strengthening the hospital so it could continue serving God through serving humanity.
He encouraged the medical staff to remain committed to delivering quality healthcare services.
