Police Arrest Suspect After Bayelsa Secretariat Explosion
A 60 year old man, Pentecost Elijah, has been arrested following a suspected improvised explosive device explosion at the Bayelsa State Secretariat Complex in Yenagoa.

The incident occurred around 6:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, prompting an immediate security response.
The Bayelsa State Police Command confirmed the development in a statement issued by Commissioner of Police, CP Iyamah.
According to the police, the explosion happened within the secretariat complex, after which the suspect, said to be from Otuan Community in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area, was apprehended.
Authorities said the suspect is currently being interrogated at the State Criminal Investigation Department and will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.
Police sources indicated that the suspect allegedly claimed he carried out the act to draw attention to concerns about his health and what he described as neglect.
Security officials assured residents that the situation has been brought under control and normal activities have resumed at the complex.
