Ramadan Hours Cut Across Northern States
As the Ramadan fast began, four northern states have reduced working hours for civil servants and students.
Kebbi, Sokoto, Zamfara, and Jigawa governments announced the adjustments to ease the daily demands of fasting and prayer.
In Kebbi, official hours now run from 8am to 2pm Monday to Thursday and until noon on Fridays.
Normal schedules will resume after Ramadan. Sokoto also shortened school hours for students, recognising the challenges of teaching during the fasting period.
Zamfara took extra steps by paying February salaries and pensions to all civil servants and retirees ahead of Ramadan, a move meant to support families during the holy month.
The state’s leadership described the measure as a reflection of responsibility and empathy.
Jigawa reduced civil service hours from 9am to 3pm Monday to Thursday, giving workers more time for religious observances.
Authorities in all four states continue to encourage residents to plan accordingly during the fasting period.
