The House of Representatives has called on the federal government to disclose the identities of individuals allegedly financing terrorism and banditry within Nigeria.
This resolution was reached during Wednesday’s plenary session, following the adoption of the report from last week’s security debate. Lawmakers stressed that publicly naming these financiers is vital to dismantling the networks fuelling the country’s growing insecurity.
The call comes after remarks by Daniel Bwala, the Special Adviser on Policy Communication to President Bola Tinubu, who indicated that the federal government is preparing to expose those sponsoring terrorism in Nigeria.
In an interview on TVC, Bwala said the administration is making “far-reaching decisions” concerning national security, which will soon become evident to Nigerians.
He pointed out that terrorism has evolved into a global challenge, noting that major powers now acknowledge the necessity to assist nations like Nigeria as extremist groups attempt to broaden their activities.
He stated, “Since the events of 9/11, terrorism has been treated as a global security issue. Any nation where terrorists operate becomes a concern to the rest of the world.”
Bwala further explained that the Tinubu administration is ramping up internal measures and will soon reveal those who are supporting terrorist operations across the country.
“At home, the government is making decisive interventions. In the coming days, Nigerians will know who the terrorists are and those funding them,” he concluded.
