Rivers Assembly Screens Fubara Nominees
The Rivers State House of Assembly has begun the process of screening nine commissioner-nominees submitted by Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
The list was received about three weeks after the governor sacked eight commissioners who were not affected by the Supreme Court judgment recognising Martin Amaewhule as the authentic Speaker of the Assembly.
Fubara also relieved all his special advisers of their duties.
In a special announcement dated March 3 and signed by the Clerk of the House, Dr Emeka Amadi, the nominees were asked to submit 40 copies of their curriculum vitae, credentials and tax clearance documents to the Assembly.
Those listed are Professor Datonye Alasia, Mr Tonye Bellgam, Professor Temple Nwofor, Dr Peters Nwagor, Mrs Charity Deemua, Tamuno Williams, Mr Lekue Kenneth, Otonye Amachree and Amairigha Edward Hart.
None of the recently sacked commissioners made the new list, which is believed to be the first batch.
The Assembly has not announced a date for the screening.
The development comes amid a recent truce between Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, now Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, following the intervention of Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Tinubu had earlier halted impeachment proceedings against the governor and his deputy, Prof Ngozi Odu, initiated by lawmakers loyal to the FCT Minister.
Speaker Amaewhule later confirmed that the House withdrew the impeachment move in compliance with the President’s directive.
