Salary Crisis Hits Nigerian Campuses
University workers across Nigeria are facing financial strain after their February salaries failed to arrive on time.
The complaint came from the leadership of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, which said the delay has placed heavy pressure on members and their families.
The issue was raised on Thursday by SSANU national president Mohammed Ibrahim, who said workers on campuses nationwide are struggling to meet daily needs due to the late payment.
He noted that many staff members depend solely on their monthly earnings.
The union also drew attention to the slow progress in the ongoing discussions between SSANU, the Non Academic Staff Union and the Federal Government over workers’ conditions of service.
Leaders said the pace of the talks has raised concern among staff members.
SSANU urged the government to address the salary issue quickly and move faster with the renegotiation process.
The union said resolving the matter would ease pressure on workers and help restore calm within the university system.
