Senate Opens Probe Over Missing N210 Trillion
The Nigerian Senate has summoned former Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, Mele Kyari, along with other senior officials including Ajia, over an alleged N210 trillion that lawmakers say remains unaccounted for in the company’s financial records.
The move came after concerns were raised during a legislative review of the oil company’s finances.
Lawmakers said the huge figure raised questions about transparency in the management of public resources, prompting the Senate to demand explanations from former and current officials linked to the transactions.
The upper chamber said the affected individuals must appear before its committee to provide documents and clarify how the funds were handled.
The probe forms part of ongoing efforts by the National Assembly to scrutinise the operations of the state-owned oil firm and ensure accountability.
Senators noted that the investigation aims to determine whether financial rules were followed and to trace the movement of the funds.
The outcome of the probe could lead to further legislative action depending on the findings presented by the invited officials.
