SERAP Demands Answers Over $460m CCTV Funds
SERAP has accused the Federal Government of failing to fully obey a court order on the controversial $460 million Abuja CCTV project.
The group said the Ministry of Finance admitted it had no detailed records of Nigerian contractors linked to the project despite years of investigations and public concerns.
The rights group stated that Nigerians still do not know the identities of local companies and individuals who benefited from the security contract.
SERAP also raised concerns over missing project items and questioned whether the CCTV system was ever fully installed or operational in Abuja.
According to the organisation, government records showed that more than 6,000 equipment items tied to the project were unaccounted for.
SERAP argued that Nigerians deserved answers because the loan used for the project was still being repaid with public funds.
The group has now given the Ministry of Finance 48 hours to release full details or face contempt proceedings.
SERAP insisted that transparency was necessary, especially as insecurity and violent crimes continue across the country.
