The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Owoade, is set to bestow high-profile chieftaincy titles on Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu, and Senator Abdul’Aziz Yari at a ceremony scheduled for Saturday.
Details contained in a flyer currently circulating on social media indicate that Seyi Tinubu will be installed as the Okanlomo of Yorubaland, while the former Zamfara State governor and serving senator for Zamfara West will receive the title of Obaloyin of Yorubaland.
The invitation, jointly issued by the Alaafin and his wife, Ayaba Abiwumi Owoade, calls on members of the public to attend the chieftaincy installation ceremony billed for Saturday, December 21, 2025.
The Okanlomo of Yorubaland is regarded as a prestigious Yoruba title, often interpreted as “one loved by all” or “a cherished son of the Yoruba people,” reflecting honour, acceptance and prominence within Yorubaland.
Speaking in a telephone interview on Wednesday, the Alaafin’s media aide, Bode Durojaiye, confirmed that preparations for the ceremony were complete.
“Yes, it is true. The Alaafin of Oyo will install Seyi Tinubu as the Okanlomo of Yorubaland and Senator Abdul’Aziz Yari as the Obaloyin of Yorubaland,” he said.
Durojaiye added that a formal statement providing further details of the event would be issued to the media soon.
