Former Nigerian senator, Shehu Sani, has advised Nigerians whose visas were recently revoked by the administration of United States President Donald Trump to return home immediately.
In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday, the outspoken former lawmaker urged affected Nigerians and other Africans to leave the US before they are apprehended by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
He cautioned that, regardless of how comfortable life abroad may appear, migrants must never forget that they are not in their own country.
He wrote: “Nigerians and other thousands of Africans whose visas were recently revoked by President Trump should hasten and leave the country and return home before they get arrested by ICE…No matter how long you live in the comfort of your adopted home, you will someday be reminded that it’s not your father’s house.”
Sani’s statement follows reports that the Trump administration has begun enforcing stricter immigration measures, which include the mass cancellation of visas and the review of existing residency permits.
The move has caused growing fear and uncertainty among immigrants from several African countries, many of whom are now unsure about their legal standing in the United States.
