Soldier And Four Hostages Killed In Ogun Kidnap Attempt
The Nigerian Army has confirmed that a soldier and four hostages were killed during an attempted kidnapping of Chinese expatriates at a dredging site in Magbon, Mowe, Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State.
The incident happened on June 8 when troops of the 35 Artillery Brigade and police officers responding to a distress call were ambushed by armed men suspected to be kidnappers, leading to a gun battle in the area.
During the exchange, one attacker was killed while others fled through surrounding forest routes towards the Ogun River with five hostages.
Security forces later recovered one survivor as operations continued in the area.
The Army said the fleeing assailants killed four of the abducted victims before escaping by boat, while a soldier was also killed and two police officers were injured during the encounter.
Security patrols have since been intensified in the region.
