TCN Begins Major Transmission Project
The Transmission Company of Nigeria has started work on upgrading the 138km Alaoji–Onitsha transmission line to improve electricity supply across the south-east.
The project involves a resettlement plan, including land acquisition and clearing of the right of way for reconstruction.
The upgrade is being carried out in partnership with the African Development Bank, as part of efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s power infrastructure.
Authorities say the process will ensure smooth execution while addressing concerns of affected communities.
The existing single-circuit line will be converted into a 330kV double-circuit quad-conductor system. This is expected to increase transmission capacity and improve power stability in the region.
Officials say the project will help reduce outages and support economic activities, as industries and households benefit from more reliable electricity supply.
