Tinubu Order New Changes To Airport Payments
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria has introduced a hybrid toll payment system at airport entry points across the country, allowing motorists to pay using both electronic platforms and cash.
The change follows a directive from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to suspend the nationwide cashless toll policy earlier introduced at the facilities.
The new arrangement means drivers approaching airport access gates can now choose between digital payment methods or cash when paying toll fees.
FAAN said the adjustment is meant to ease movement at the gates while addressing concerns raised by travellers and motorists during the earlier rollout of the cashless system.
The shift comes after complaints about delays and payment challenges at some airport toll points shortly after the cashless policy was introduced.
Authorities decided to temporarily halt the system while reviewing how it would operate without disrupting access to airports.
FAAN explained that the hybrid approach will remain in place while improvements are made to the electronic system.
The agency said the goal is to maintain smooth traffic flow while preparing for a more efficient toll payment process in the future.
