Tinubu Says No More ASUU Strike
The development centres on President Bola Tinubu, who has assured Nigerians that strikes by the Academic Staff Union of Universities and other unions in public tertiary institutions will no longer disrupt academic activities.
The assurance was given in Lagos during the 56th convocation ceremony of the University of Lagos in Akoka, where 16,506 students from diploma, undergraduate and postgraduate programmes for the 2024/2025 academic session were awarded degrees.
The president, speaking through the Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, said the stability recorded in universities since his administration began was deliberate and built on steady talks and firm leadership.
He said a new agreement reached with ASUU had finally settled long-standing disputes that repeatedly disrupted the university system and weakened confidence in public education.
Tinubu also stressed that universities must produce graduates who can create jobs and solve problems, not just seek employment.
The event featured the conferment of academic and honorary awards, including emeritus and distinguished professorships, honorary doctorates, and prizes for outstanding graduates.
