Tinubu Sends New Names To Senate For Screening
President Bola Tinubu has written to the Senate seeking confirmation of fresh nominees for key federal roles.
The request, read during Tuesday’s plenary, asks lawmakers to screen and approve Jamila Abubakar and Ismail Yusuf.
Jamila Abubakar, a retired admiral, has been nominated as a national commissioner at the Independent National Electoral Commission, representing Adamawa State.
The president also put forward Ismail Yusuf for appointment as chairman of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria.
The letter was addressed to Senate President Godswill Akpabio and formally presented before senators in the chamber.
Lawmakers are expected to begin the confirmation process in line with constitutional requirements.
If cleared, the appointments will fill strategic positions in the country’s electoral body and the agency overseeing Hajj operations, both of which play central roles in national administration.
