Tinubu Urges Politicians To Respect Electoral Law
Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called on politicians across party lines to respect the rule of law and accept the provisions of the newly amended Electoral Act 2026, stressing that democratic principles must be upheld regardless of political interests.
The president made the appeal during an interfaith breakfast with leaders of the All Progressives Congress, members of its National Working Committee and officials of the Inter Party Advisory Council at the State House in Abuja.
He said democracy requires respect for the rule of law and acceptance of decisions taken through legitimate processes, including laws passed by the National Assembly.
The president also defended his decision to sign the amended Electoral Act, noting that the bill was passed by an overwhelming majority in the legislature and that respecting such decisions is part of democratic governance.
Tinubu urged political actors to address disagreements through debate and dialogue rather than confrontation, adding that maintaining peace and stability remains essential for Nigeria’s democracy.
