Asiwaju Bola Oyebamiji, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), has stepped down from his position to fully pursue his governorship ambition under the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Oyebamiji—popularly known as AMBO, the name of his political movement—was appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on 25 October 2025. His resignation comes ahead of the APC primary scheduled for 13 December 2025.
The decision was confirmed in a statement by the spokesperson of the AMBO Movement, Adebayo Adedeji, who praised President Tinubu and the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, for granting Oyebamiji the platform to contribute to national development.
According to Adedeji, Oyebamiji’s two-year leadership at NIWA delivered significant reforms, leveraging nearly four decades of combined private and public-sector experience to revitalise the waterways agency.
He stated that Oyebamiji’s administration reduced inland waterway accidents and fatalities by over 70 percent, boosted safety awareness to unprecedented levels, and improved staff welfare in ways widely acknowledged across the sector.
As he transitions into the next stage of his political career, Oyebamiji remains focused on providing purposeful leadership to the people of Osun State as the 2026 governorship race draws closer.
The AMBO Movement said his aspiration is rooted in a vision to reposition Osun State for lasting economic growth that future generations will appreciate.
“For the 2026 governorship contest, AMBO places his trust in God Almighty, in APC leaders and members to give him the party’s ticket, and in the good people of Osun State to support his ambition to serve with integrity, competence and dedication,” the statement added.
