UNILAG Students Take Back Their Voice
The University of Lagos has restored its Student Union Government after nine years without an active student leadership body. The development followed a successful election that produced a new set of student representatives to run the union.
The suspension of the union dated back to 2016 after a crisis that led the university management to dissolve the structure.
Since then, students had operated without a formal union while discussions continued on how to reintroduce it under a more stable framework.
The breakthrough came after the university approved a new constitution and supervised fresh elections across the campus.
Students participated in the voting process which eventually produced new leaders to manage the affairs of the union.
With the return of the union, students are expected to have a formal platform to represent their interests and engage with the university administration on issues affecting campus life.
