UNIZIK Appoints Prof. Bond Anyaechie As Substantive Vice Chancellor

UNIZIK has appointed Prof. Bond Anyaechie as the substantive Vice Chancellor, ending a year-long leadership gap following the reversal of Prof. Bernard Odoh’s appointment by President Bola Tinubu.

At a press briefing in Abuja, the university’s Pro-Chancellor and Governing Council Chairman, Olugbenga Kukoyi, announced Anyaechie’s appointment, describing the process as “thorough and transparent.” He said, “I am pleased to announce Professor Bond Anyaechie as the substantive Vice Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University after a thorough and transparent process.”

Prof. Anyaechie, a specialist in Medical Physiology and Clinical Measurement, brings nearly two decades of teaching and academic leadership experience from the College of Medicine, University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus.

He earned his first degree in Medicine and Surgery from Abia State University, Uturu, in 1998, followed by a master’s degree in 2004, a PhD in 2009, and a Master of Public Health in 2011.

He began his academic career in 2002 as a part-time lecturer at the College of Medicine, Imo State University, later transitioning to a full-time role. In 2007, he joined the University of Nigeria, College of Medicine, rising to the rank of Reader and earning promotion to Professor of Physiology and Clinical Measurement in 2013.

Anyaechie has held several key administrative roles, including Deputy Provost of the College of Medicine, University of Nigeria, from 2018 to 2022, Acting Provost at the College of Medicine, Imo State University, and visiting professor on a pro bono basis from 2020 to 2022.

His appointment is expected to provide stability and strengthen leadership at UNIZIK, with stakeholders expressing confidence that his experience and expertise will guide the university toward academic growth and excellence.
