US Halts Visa Services In Abuja
The United States has suspended visa appointment services at its embassy in Abuja after approving the departure of non-essential staff due to security concerns.
The decision was announced on April 9 through an official notice.
Authorities said applicants should check their emails for rescheduled dates, while visa services continue at the consulate in Lagos.
Emergency services for American citizens remain available on appointment.
The move follows a travel advisory placing Nigeria on Level 3, urging caution due to rising threats such as terrorism, kidnapping, and civil unrest.
Several states were also listed as high-risk areas where travel is discouraged.
The development reflects growing concern over security across the country, with officials warning of violent crimes, highway attacks, and insurgent activity.
Despite the shutdown in Abuja, limited consular operations continue in Lagos.
