Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has attributed the defection of governors from other parties to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the impactful reforms initiated by President Bola Tinubu.
Speaking during a statewide tour across local government areas, Aiyedatiwa expressed gratitude to grassroots supporters and rallied support for Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid.
Starting in the four Akoko local government areas — Akoko North-West, Akoko North-East, Akoko South-East, and Akoko South-West — the governor commissioned five utility vehicles for traditional rulers and a bus for the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) at the Akoko North-West Secretariat.
Highlighting the APC’s growing influence and infrastructural progress nationwide, Aiyedatiwa said these reforms had been a key factor attracting governors from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and other parties to join the APC.
He revealed that his 2024 gubernatorial election opponent, Hon. Agboola Ajayi, had met with him and agreed to join the APC at a later date.
He credited the reforms for opening new economic opportunities in Ondo State, citing the ongoing dualisation of the Ikare–Akungba road as evidence of development in the Akoko area.
During the tour, Aiyedatiwa emphasised unity within the party, urging APC members and affiliated groups to work together and avoid internal conflicts. He assured that all disagreements would be settled through dialogue, promising no internal fights ahead of the 2027 elections.
Deputy Governor Dr. Olayide Adelami also thanked residents and party members for their warm reception during the visits.
The governor’s thank-you tour included stops in Isua, Akoko South-East, where he expressed appreciation to party leaders and distributed palliatives as tokens of gratitude to party supporters.
