Wike Cancels Hundreds Of Abuja Land Papers
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has approved the withdrawal of 485 land documents in Abuja after they failed official verification checks.
The decision followed a joint review by the Department of Land Administration and the Abuja Geographic Information Systems, which found several of the papers to be fake.
In a public notice issued on Monday and tagged Batch I, the FCT Administration said the invalid applications had been deleted from its regularisation records.
The move affects applicants who submitted Area Council land papers for confirmation. It stated that the cancellations were based on failed authenticity tests.
The affected properties cut across several councils and layouts. In Bwari, areas such as Ushafa Village Expansion Scheme, Ushafa Extension and Dawaki Extension 1 were listed.
In the Abuja Municipal Area Council, districts including Kurudu-Jikwoyi Relocation, Kurudu Commercial, Karu Village Extension, Nyanya Phase IV Extension, Jikwoyi Residential, Sabon Lugbe and Lugbe I Extension were named.
Some organisations, including the Redeemed Christian Church of God and the Ministry of Justice Staff Multi-purpose Cooperative Society, were also affected.
Under Nigerian law, land in the FCT belongs to the Federal Government, and titles must pass through the Office of the FCT Minister and AGIS.
The cancellations are part of wider reforms aimed at tackling forgery, double allocation and questionable grants.
Last year, officials revealed that only 8,287 out of 261,914 Area Council land documents submitted between 2006 and 2023 had been screened, leaving most applications still awaiting clearance.
