Yoruba Union Slams Tinubu Over Ranching Plan
The Yoruba Council of Elders has criticised the federal government’s National Ranching Programme in Kwara State, claiming it “hands over Yorubaland to Fulani extremists.”
The union raised concerns that the initiative could escalate conflicts between herders and local communities.
The council argued that structured ranching and livestock settlements may prioritise pastoralists over farmers, threatening local land rights and security.
They warned that without proper safeguards, the programme could worsen tensions in rural areas.
The federal government, meanwhile, insists the scheme aims to curb violence, improve livestock management, and stabilise affected communities, noting that Kwara State authorities are collaborating for smooth implementation.
Local leaders are calling for dialogue and assurances that the ranching programme will respect community interests and prevent exploitation, urging authorities to balance security measures with protection of local populations.
